New Year’s Eve: dinners in Pitigliano

Pitigliano always has its charm in every period of the year and every moment can offer an atmosphere, a suggestion, a particular light. Surely one of the key evenings to experience (well) in the city of tuff is that of December 31st. Since several years, in fact, the Pitigliano night of new Year’s Eve offers a unique charm with the presence of many tourists entertained by celebrations in music that take place in Piazza della Repubblica – where this year Divina and Mr. Kikko dj perform – and, above all, from a gastronomic proposal rich and varied in the country’s restaurants.

Tradition or innovation, themed or à la carte menus

In Pitigliano there really is something for all tastes and budgets. In this article I point out some interesting proposals among the many that you can find on New Year’s Eve. If your intentions are to stay in the village for the whole evening, in the historic center there are many places offering interesting menus and that of the Locanda del Pozzo Antico, in Via Generale Orsini, is one of these. The Pozzo presents an alternative menu that incorporates the “Inverno a colori” winter menu, recently launched by the restaurant. “Inverno a colori” also influenced the gastronomic proposal for the last evening of the year with many elements and with the usual pinch of imagination and extravagance typical of this place.

Different for proposal Il Caveau, in the historic La Fratta district. The restaurant has differentiated itself from its competitors by launching various themed menus during the holidays, including on Christmas day and, in particular, on Christmas Eve, a practice that is still not widespread in our areas but which will soon catch on. In Piazza della Repubblica, a stone’s throw from the party, the dinner we point out is that of La Rocca with a menu, designed by the chef Mirio Biondi, entirely dedicated to the sea. The idea of Dalla Pepita, on the other hand, is a perfect land-sea mix, always very imaginative. For the more traditionalists, I mention the Canapone restaurant.

Remaining in Piazza Petruccioli, at the gates of the historic centre, if you want to celebrate New Year’s Eve with a breathtaking panorama, you can choose betweenOsteria di Fuori Porta and La Magica Torre, while if you want to get away from the classic fixed menu proposals, the right place for you is Le Bontà di Claudia which, this year, presents two types of à la carte menus from which to choose the dishes that inspire you the most. La Terrazza, instead, it can be an option if you want pizza cooked in a wood oven.

Leaving the town, we invite you to consider the Hosteria di Pantalla, on the road to Farnese, with a classic double-dish menu for each course, for a mix of land and sea. As usual, this tavern tries to marry the typical tradition of our hinterland with the sea which, as Silvia, the owner of the restaurant, tells us, «can be seen in the distance and felt in the air». Also outside the town, an interesting proposal is that of La Collina which organizes a New Year’s Eve dinner with musical accompaniment and a treat of hot croissants during the night.

It should be emphasized that almost all the menus are accompanied by the classic cotechino with lentils; the average price varies from 70 to 100 euros. Many have mixed meat and fish, while not all menus include drinks.
