The Infiorata of Pitigliano is a traditional event that has taken place for years on the occasion of the solemnity of Corpus Domini. From the strictly religious festival comes a popular one in which the Pitigliano population participates together with the various economic activities.
The Infiorata belongs to the tradition of decorations of the so-called “baroque festivals”, born in Rome during the 17th century, which consisted of creating paintings using flowers, starting from the Vatican Basilica. It even saw among its first supporters the famous Gian Lorenzo Bernini who, from San Pietro, also extended it to the Roman castles where it continued in the 18th century when, in 1778, the first Infiorata of Corpus Domini was set up in Genzano.
The origin of this festival is actually much older: it was born, in fact, in Belgium in 1246, to exalt the cult of the Sacrament of the Eucharist.
With the collaboration of the Tourist Information Office, the Pro Loco and other public and private channels, active participation in the event has also been extended to the visitors of Pitigliano who, every year, come in ever greater numbers not only as spectators but also as protagonists, therefore with the possibility of creating floral works together with the citizens.
