A performance full of stories, music, songs, anecdotes and quotes, creating the typical atmosphere of a cabaret, with the aim of introducing the audience to the Yiddish language and culture. This language, a fascinating interweaving of German, Hebrew, Polish, Russian, Ukrainian and Romanian, encapsulates the universal experience of the wandering Jew, always without a homeland, wherever he may be. A journey that “tastes of distant lands and hidden workshops, of narrow streets and synagogues.”
Written and performed by Moni Ovadia, who describes all of this as “the sound of exile, the music of dispersion”: a tribute to the diaspora. Enriching the experience is an ensemble of extraordinary musicians: Paolo Rocca on clarinet, Michele Gazich on violin, Giovanna Famulari on cello, and Nicu Nelutu Baicu on accordion.
